Reports
The Society has published several reports and position papers over the years:
Effective Allergy Practice
The report aimed to summarise the evidence that adverse reactions to environmental factors and foods play a much larger role in the provocation of chronic illnesses than is generally recognised, and that beneficial results were attained in most cases if they were managed as if they were allergies.
Effective Nutritional Medicine
The extent of current knowledge and literature on nutrition is too vast for a single document. The aim of this paper, therefore, is to highlight major areas of clinical and public health importance where nutrition can have an impact.
Some basic principles are outlined, and several major categories of illness addressed. Extensive references are provided in validation, so that the paper may serve as a source of further literature regarding the statements made.
Multiple Chemical Sensitivity
There has been an enormous increase in the production and use of synthetic chemicals and in exposure to pollutants, which has accelerated in the last 50 years. Five million different chemicals are now recognised, and relatively few of the chemicals in use have been adequately tested for toxicity to humankind or the environment.
Long-term ill effects have been reported from chronic exposure to heavy metals and pollutant chemicals. Most individuals report that their late symptoms are exacerbated by ambient exposures to volatile organic chemicals (VOCs) emitted by everyday products (for instance, perfumes, washing powders and cigarette smoke), which were previously tolerated without trouble and indeed often enjoyed. This condition is referred to as multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS).
The Health Effects of Waste Incinerators
Both the amount of waste and its potential toxicity are increasing. Available landfill sites are being used up and incineration is being seen increasingly as a solution to the waste problem. This report examines the literature concerning the health effects of incinerators.
