The Register lists BSEM members who provide medical or dental services within the framework of Allergy, Environmental and Nutritional Medicine, although there is some variation in individual members’ approach and emphasis.

All accept referrals from doctors, whether funded by the NHS, Healthcare Insurance, or self-funded. All are regulated by the General Medical Council (or General Dental Council) and are duty-bound to follow the rules of these bodies, on pain of erasure. Many (but not all) accept self-referrals by patients, provided the rules of the above bodies are adhered to. The BSEM provides this information in good faith as a public service but takes no responsibility for individual members’ practices.

• Doctors on the Register of Ecological Physicians are closely regulated by the Society’s Board of Registration and have the highest degree of approval. This means that the doctors have satisfied the Board by clinical audit and representative case histories that their practices are of a standard expected of a Specialist, that they have attended training courses or otherwise demonstrated that they are fully up to date, that they have signed a declaration agreeing to adhere to the Code of Ethics of the Register, and that the Board has contacted their patients to make sure that they are generally satisfied with their service. On the basis of this evidence a majority of Board members would be willing to entrust the health of their own families to these doctors. Inclusion on the Register is acceptable to the General Medical Council as evidence for revalidation.

• Doctors on the Practitioners List are believed by the BSEM Committee to be adequately knowledgeable and competent but they have not been formally assessed unless they are also on the Register.
  

Some BSEM members are not listed at all, either because thay have retired, or because they do not wish to be included, or for some other reason.
